Whether a horse is calm and relaxed in his work often dictates how easy he is to train and is certainly the key to optimum performance. We normally associate the need for calmers with dressage and showing, but even in activities where maximum explosive energy is required, such as racing, they can help conserve valuable energy which might otherwise get used up by the stress of travelling or pre-race preparations. However, from our experiences what works for one horse doesn’t necessarily work for the next – metabolisms as well as temperaments vary.
